DASHBOARD: California Prison Population Dashboards
PRESS RELEASE: New Dashboards Show Prison Incarceration Data and Trends in California
The California Prison Population Data Dashboards provide public access to information on adults incarcerated in California state prisons. Developed by the California Policy Lab in partnership with the State of California’s Committee on the Revision of the Penal Code (CRPC), this interactive tool allows users to explore data on the characteristics of all people incarcerated since 2015. Users may sort the population by demographics (race, gender, age), crimes committed, sentence lengths, sentence enhancement details, and county of conviction, among other categories. The dashboards are organized into three sections—the current population (as of June 2025), admissions (2015 through June 2025), and releases (2015 through June 2025). Please see this document for guidance on how to use the dashboards and data documentation.
