By 2040, 22% of Californians will be 65 or older, up 14% from 2020. This shift is reshaping what workers need and how the state can best support them. Is California prepared?
Join the California Policy Lab (CPL) and the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) as we present new research on older workers and discuss the path forward for policymakers. CPL will share findings on the economic circumstances and workforce experiences of older Californians, which are informing updates to California’s Master Plan for Aging. PPIC will share new projections on how the state’s older workforce is expected to change.
Following the presentations, a panel of policymakers, practitioners, and experts will discuss the implications of these trends, gaps in current policies and programs, and opportunities to better assist aging workers in California. A Q&A session will follow.
This work is being conducted in partnership with the California Department of Aging, California Labor & Workforce Development Agency, and California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, with funding support from AARP Foundation and the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.
