Insights on an Affordable California
Costs, Migration, and a Fraying Safety Net

The California Policy Lab hosted a reception on August 26th, with insights and conversations exploring the data behind California’s affordability crisis. From housing costs to safety net cuts, shifting migration patterns, and emerging labor market risks, the event highlighted new findings on the economic pressures facing California families. The event also served as our official kick-off event to celebrate CPL’s new office in Sacramento (located at the UC Student and Policy Center), which will deepen our collaboration with Capitol policymakers.

Speakers included:

  • Senator Jesse Arreguín
  • Kim Johnson, CalHHS Secretary
  • Prof. Katherine Newman, UC Provost
  • Nancy Farias, Director, California Employment Development Department
  • Dr. Walter Schwarm, CA Chief Demographer
  • Prof. Jesse Rothstein, CPL Faculty Director
