About the Webinar:
This presentation will discuss the labor market implications resulting from the California AI-Unemployment Tracker (CAIT) work. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has advanced at an extraordinary pace, generating both concern and optimism about its implications for the future of work. While generative AI tools only began reaching the public in late 2022, they have been integrated into the workforce with remarkable speed. Given the speed and potential scale of this transformation, policymakers need timely data to identify emerging trends of AI-related job losses and to inform safety-net and workforce development policies to support these workers.
About the Speaker:
Ben Hyman, PhD is an economist and senior researcher at UCLA / the California Policy Lab with interests in labor economics, public finance, and urban economics. His primary research uses employer-employee matched data to analyze the effects of re-skilling and other forms of social insurance on workers displaced by trade and technology, including AI. Ben also studies policies targeted toward distressed local labor markets, including location based business tax incentives and municipal debt market policies.
