Head shot for Eric Wilson

Eric Wilson is a Senior Data Analyst focusing on labor and unemployment. His research interests include income shocks and other financial hardship, financial products in the workplace, and the employer/employee relationship more broadly.

Eric joins CPL from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), where his tenure spanned the COVID-19 pandemic. Tasked with monitoring household financial conditions, he saw first-hand the potential for the social safety net to address job loss, as household finances improved despite a massive spike in unemployment. He hopes to apply this and other lessons learned to improve programs and policies that support people during economic downturns.

At the CFPB, Eric co-led development of the Making Ends Meet program—the Bureau’s primary survey of household finances. His work has appeared in the New York Times, CNBC, and the Wall Street Journal. He holds a BA from Middlebury College and an MPP from UC Berkeley.

Outside work, Eric enjoys board games, crosswords, swimming, skiing, and trying to train his dog.
