Gilbert MurilloCriminal Justice Research Advisory Board Member
Gilbert Murillo, a first-generation college graduate, earned two degrees from University of California, Santa Barbara and is enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy. Growing up in Norwalk, California, he experienced over-policing and violence and at age 19, was incarcerated. This experience fueled his passion for system reforms. For example, he contributed to Senate Bill 990, allowing parolees to transfer to counties with post-secondary institutions. He currently works as an Elder Ronald Freeman Policy Fellow at Legal Services for Prisoners with Children, focusing on ending involuntary servitude in California prisons through Proposition 6. Gilbert hopes that his participation on the Criminal Legal Research Advisory Board at the California Policy Lab can help improve policies for Californians through research informed by his experiences.
