Headshot of Jacob Morris

Jacob Morris is a Graduate Research Fellow at CPL and a Ph.D. student in Economics at the University of California, San Diego. At CPL, he supports projects related to unemployment insurance. Jacob is particularly interested in how economic policies (e.g., advance notice of layoff, early financial and health interventions) can mitigate the long-term, “churn-like” intergenerational effects of poverty, and he enjoys exploring how data-driven insights can inform better policy decisions for marginalized populations.

Before pursuing his Ph.D. at UC San Diego, Jacob was a Research Assistant at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR), where he worked on projects related to health policy in the United States.

Jacob holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

When he’s not working on economic research, Jacob enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and his three pets—a dog and two cats. Whether it’s discussing economic questions with colleagues or enjoying downtime with loved ones, Jacob strives to maintain a balance between his intellectual pursuits and personal life.
