Joseph Burney is a communications and design intern at the California Policy Lab and an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley, studying philosophy and journalism. Joseph’s prior experiences with policy includes studying K-12 educational practices for neurodivergent students with the UC/CSU Collaborative for Neuroscience, and helping shape university policy within the Office of the UC Berkeley student body president.

An avid writer, Joseph uses language to communicate complex nuances to broad audiences. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he finds that communication is a strong tool for both community engagement and for policy change. He writes for numerous campus publications, including the Berkeley Political Review and Student Affairs Communications. In his free time, he enjoys his time at ambient cafes, drinking matcha, watching new movies, and exploring a range of music.
