Laurin WilliamsCriminal Justice Research Advisory Board Member
In 2022 Laurin received her Business Administration Certificate from UC Santa Cruz Extension. In 2023 she gained her Business Administration A.S.T from American River College in Sacramento. Currently she is a UC Davis Managerial Economics Undergraduate completing her degree in 2025. She hopes to begin her own business one day where she can provide a safe and profitable workplace for those who have a criminal record to be successful.
Laurin works as the Lead Peer Advisor for the Underground Scholars Program at UC Davis where she was featured in Sacramento news reports on CBS and NBC in Fall of 2023 about the program. In this role she is a student mentor and advocate for rights of formerly incarcerated and the justice-system-impacted students on campus. Since September 2022 she has been the Northern California Umoja Student Board Member working to help students reach their goals in higher education with a holistic approach of Mind, Body, and Spirit. This past spring she was part of the PBS Inside California Education Episode on Umoja, where she spoke about its impact on students, especially African American students.
In Fall of 2024 she became the Public Relations Chair of the Underground Scholars Initiative Student Organization at UC Davis, an organization dedicated to advocacy, retention, wellness, and outreach to students impacted by the justice system of America. She also served as a Board Member of the Club Finance Council for UC Davis for the 2023-2024 school year where she voted on processes and fund allocation to student organizations on campus.
She is the UC Davis Underground Scholars Ambassador Coordinator working with community college students in her area who have been impacted by the justice system to create support for their populations on their respective campuses since 2023. In Winter 2023 she became part of the Underground Scholars Policy Fellowship which equips fellows with information about the process of policy changes in government. This past Spring she was awarded the 2024 UC Davis Rising Star Award for her dedication to advocacy and support of the students on campus impacted by the justice system. She is now part of the California Student Parent Advisory Board for the 2024-2025 school year. She will always be there to give support and speak for those who can not speak for themselves which is why she is proud to be part of the Criminal Legal Research Advisory Board. Outside of work and school Laurin is a wife and mother of two amazing children ages 5 and 7. She loves to write, read and spend time with her family.
