Manny Prunty is a Research Associate at the California Policy Lab (CPL), where he supports research on disparate impacts of the carceral system. His work primarily focuses on alternatives to incarceration and programs that facilitate reintegration. At CPL, he also works on interconnections between employment, education, safety-net programs, and the criminal legal system, with a focus on evaluating how effectively the criminal legal system rehabilitates incarcerated individuals. He is particularly passionate about policy reforms and programs that can foster more equitable outcomes for Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities. Additionally, Manny is interested in immigration policy and its intersection with the criminal legal system, especially for undocumented individuals.

Before joining CPL, Manny served as a Research Associate at the Public Policy Institute of California. There, he conducted extensive research on a variety of public education topics, including early childhood education offerings, chronic absenteeism, districts’ recovery strategies post-COVID, and trends in public school enrollment.

Manny holds a BA in Economics and Ethnic Studies with a minor in Demography from UC Berkeley. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys watching TV and movies, playing chess, and embarking on scenic bike rides.
