Paul LapinskiResearch Fellow, Los Angeles

Paul Lapinski is a Graduate Student Researcher at CPL and a Ph.D Candidate in Economics at American University in Washington, D.C. At CPL he supports projects related to unemployment insurance and is embedded at California’s Employment Development Department.
Paul’s individual research agenda centers on immigrants’ safety-net participation in the U.S. His work addresses how these programs affect broader patterns of inequality and immigrants’ labor and economic outcomes. In current projects, he evaluates the labor and poverty effects of immigrants becoming eligible for tax credits and analyzes the effect of access to legal representation on outcomes for cases determining immigrants’ legal status.
Prior to starting his graduate program in D.C., Paul lived in San Francisco for three years. He is excited to return to the Bay Area and join the CPL team, where he hopes to contribute impactful policy research and improve Californian’s lives.
Paul holds a B.A. in economics and Spanish from Skidmore College. Outside of work, he can be found playing soccer, figuring out how to make vegetarianism delicious, or searching for wicked good Facebook Marketplace deals to decorate his apartment.
