Roozbeh F. Moghadam is a Researcher at the California Policy Lab at UCLA and a Research Data Specialist at the State of California’s Employment Development Department. He works on diverse projects studying California’s labor market and unemployment insurance.

Roozbeh’s research lies at the intersection of labor and spatial economics, aiming to understand the effects of various shocks on local labor markets. Recently, he studied the spillover effects of mass layoffs on neighboring firms. Another array of his studies focuses on the role of unemployment insurance benefits on recipients’ labor market outcomes.

At CPL, Roozbeh was part of a team of researchers who partnered with the Employment Development Department to analyze administrative Unemployment Insurance claims data during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, he is involved in several projects, including workers’ recovery post-pandemic, short-term compensation program, and high utilization of UI benefits.

Roozbeh holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Davis, and a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
